Removing the instrument cluster on a 2001 Ford F250 is not difficult; however, a special tool is needed to remove the radio. The tool comprises a set of flat metal hooks about three inches long. Many people fabricate their own tool or locate something suitable for use. The fuse for the instrument panel, which is located under the dash on the drivers side, has been known to burn out in the 2001 F250 truck.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal, using a socket. Remove the radio. Notice the thin slots one on each side of the radio's face. Insert the thin metal hooks into these slots and push them in and down slightly, releasing the radio. Pull the radio straight out, enough to disengage the radio electrical connector and the antenna.

    2

Remove the two bolts located directly above the radio, using a socket. Lower the steering wheel by removing the cover under the lower part of the dash, using a 15 mm socket. Remove the steering wheel support bracket bolts located under the dash. Lower the steering column down and rest the wheel on the drivers seat.

    3

Remove the two Phillips screws in the dash bezel above the instruments. Pull the dash bezel out by disengaging the metal snaps around the dash that secure it in place -- they are just pressed in. Unplug the headlight switch and any other switches attached to the bezel.

    4

Remove the screws on both sides of the instrument cluster, using a socket. Pull the cluster out by tipping the bottom out first. Push the emergency flasher switch in to prevent it from being broken when the cluster is removed. Keep an eye on it as the cluster is removed, as it can be broken easily. Unplug the cluster assembly and pull it out of the vehicle.

    5

Install the cluster by inserting the top of the cluster and plugging in the electrical connector. Swing the lower part in and install the screws. Install the dash bezel by plugging in the electrical connectors first. Align the trim fasteners with their respective holes and press them in. Insert the screws above the instruments and the two above the radio.

    6

Install the radio antenna and plug in the electrical connector. Push the radio in until it snaps in place. Raise the steering column and install the three nuts in the support bracket, then tighten them firmly. Replace the lower concealment dash cover and screws. Connect the negative battery terminal.
