The 1996 Ford F350 equipped with a 7.3-liter diesel engine was designated the Power Stroke. Lariat models included power windows and door locks, leather seating and trim surfaces. The window system uses power window motors to generate the kinetic energy necessary to lift and lower the window. When you push the window switch, you close the window circuit, which energizes the motor. The motor, in turn, engages a gear on the window regulator that operates the mechanical portion of the window movement. If the lift motor fails, the whole system is inoperative until you replace the faulty motor.
Instructions
- 1
Roll down the window on the door in question. Pry the sail panel trim off the F250's door using the trim tool. The sail panel is the triangular piece of trim on the upper-leading edge of the door panel, behind the door's A-pillar.
2Pry the window switch bezel from the door using the trim tool. Unhook the switches from the wiring connectors and set the bezel aside. Remove the hex-head screws behind the bezel using the socket wrench and 7-mm socket.
3Pry the courtesy lamp lens off the panel using the trim tool. Remove the hex-head screw behind the lens with the socket wrench and 7-mm socket. Grab the door panel with both hands and lift upward and away from the door to remove it.
4Peel back the plastic vapor barrier on the door to expose the interior access holes, if so equipped. Don't pull the barrier completely off, just peel it back as far as you need to gain access.
5Lift the window glass to the top of the door and secure it to the window frame at the top with packing tape. Unplug the window circuit harness from the window lift motor. Unbolt the window lift motor from the regulator and door bracket using a socket wrench and 8-mm socket.
6Pull the old window lift motor out of the F250's door and replace it with the new one. Bolt the new window lift motor to the F250's door bracket and window regulator. Plug the window circuit into the window motor.
7Peel the packing tape off the window. Plug the window switch into the door harness and lower the window. Unplug the window switch.
8Lower the door panel back onto the door. Reinstall the two hex-head screws into the courtesy light and window switch bezel cavities respectively.
9Snap the courtesy light lens into place. Plug the switches into the door harness and then snap the switch bezel into the door. Snap the sail panel into place to complete the repair.
