The Chevrolet Silverado's clearance light, also referred to as the backup light, is a part of the Silverado's tail light assembly. If you wish to wire an aftermarket clearance light on to your Silverado, the process is the same as wiring a factory clearance light. It's an incredibly simple process that will not take more than fifteen minutes. You will need to access the tail light assembly by removing a few screws from the Silverado in order to access the wiring component.
Instructions
- 1
Open your Silverado's hood by pulling on the hood release lever located below and to the left of the steering wheel.
2Lift up the hood and disconnect the battery's negative cable with a socket wrench.
3Open the tailgate and remove the screws from the rear of the tail light assembly. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
4Disconnect the wiring connector of the assembly and remove it from the vehicle. Install the aftermarket assembly with the desired clearance lights installed and place it into the Silverado.
5Connect the wiring connector to the rear of the assembly. It will click into place when secured.
6Reattach the screws to secure the tail light assembly and close the tailgate. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
