Air flow being sent to the engine of your vehicle is measured by an air to flow ratio meter, called a mass air flow sensor. This sensor is located inside of the engine compartment between the air cleaner outlet tube and its housing. A sensing element detects the amount of air entering the engine. If you have problems with the engine of your vehicle, the mass air flow sensor may be bad.
Instructions
- 1
Pull the hood release inside the vehicle. Open the hood and set the support bar.
2Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal with a wrench. Locate the air intake temperature and mass air flow sensor inside the engine compartment. Disconnect the connector for the wiring harness from the sensors.
3Loosen the clamps used to secure the air cleaner outlet tube with the flat-head screwdriver. Take the outlet tube out of the engine.
4Push on the retaining clip connecting the mass air flow sensor to the air cleaner. Pull on the connection to separate the sensor. Remove the mass air flow sensor and set it aside.
5Attach the new mass air flow sensor and the retaining clip. Reattach the outlet tube and tighten with the screwdriver.
6Reattach the connector for the wiring harness to the air intake temperature sensor and the mass air flow sensor. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal.
