In 1983, Ford followed Chevys lead by scrapping its foreign-built compact truck the Courier in favor of an American-built pickup, the Ranger. The 2008 Ranger came standard with only a few basic features, including AM-FM radio, power steering and intermittent windshield wipers. Notice the lack of power windows; this means you must perform the out-dated act of manually cranking the windows down. Fords window cranks are slightly different than most, as a hidden bolt secures each crank instead of a small, and rather annoying, U-shaped clip. Kudos to Ford for making replacing your 2008 Rangers window cranks slightly easier than most other manufacturers.
Instructions
- 1
Pry upward on the end of the window crank cover closest to the door panel with a flat-head screwdriver to disengage its retaining clips.
2Pull the window crank cover away from the window crank slightly and pivot it clockwise or counterclockwise to expose the window crank retaining screw.
3Hold the window crank from turning, then remove the window crank retaining bolt with a ratchet and Torx-bit socket. Pull the window crank handle and its plastic washer off the window regulator axle.
4Set a new window crank washer on the regulator axle, then set a new window crank on the regulator axle. Hand-tighten the window crank retaining bolt with a Torx-bit socket, then tighten it with a ratchet and Torx-bit socket.
5Pivot the window crank cover so it lines up with the window crank. Press the window crank cover onto the window crank until it snaps into place.
6Repeat steps 1 through 5 to replace the window crank on the other side of the Ranger.
