Dodge introduced the Dakota pickup in 1987 and created a new size-class the mid-size. First-generation Dakotas were produced from 1987 to 1996. Second-generation models were produced from 1997 to 2004. 2003 Dakotas were powered by a 3.9-liter V-6, a 4.7-liter V-8, or a 5.9-liter V-8 and available in two- or four-wheel drive. The instrument cluster on the 2003 Dakota can be replaced with very little disassembly.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Park the Dakota on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2Place the shifter in Low if you have an automatic transmission. If you have a tilt column, place it in the lowest position.
3Remove the two screws from the underside of the instrument cluster bezel with a Phillips screwdriver. They are above the instrument cluster.
4Use a trim tool to carefully pry around the perimeter of the bezel. Note that it extends out past the radio. Pull the bezel away from the dash and set aside.
5Remove the four screws that attach the instrument cluster to the dash with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull out the cluster far enough so you can disconnect the two electrical connectors. Remove the cluster.
Installation
- 6
Set the cluster in place and connect the electrical connectors.
7Install and tighten the screws.
8Push the bezel onto the dash.
9Install and tighten the screws.
