Mercedes introduced the C-class -- or compact class -- in 1982, beneath the E-class, S-class and SL-class. The 1995 Mercedes C280 was equipped with a 2.8-liter in-line six-cylinder engine, capable of producing 195-horsepower. The 1995 C280 was available with luxuries such as power doors and windows, sunroof and a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive as standard equipment. The headlights on the 1995 C280, use a single bulb for both the high and low beam. Replacing the lights adds better night- and poor-driving condition sight, as well as makes the driver more visible to oncoming traffic.

Instructions

    1

Raise the hood on the C280.

    2

Depress the latch at the top of the bulb cover. Remove the cover from the back of the headlight housing. Remove the electrical connector from the old lightbulb by hand.

    3

Unhook the clamp ring from behind the headlight bulb by hand. Remove the old headlight horizontally from the housing.

    4

Wrap the new headlight in a paper towel. Grasp the headlight by the socket end only. Insert the new headlight bulb into the rear of the housing horizontally, so the tabs on the bulb line up with those on the rear of the housing. Lock the clip ring behind the new light bulb to fasten it in place by hand.

    5

Install the electrical connector onto the new headlight bulb. Install the bulb cover on the back of the light housing, and push it until it audibly clicks and locks into place.

    6

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 to complete the headlight replacement on the second side of the C280.
