The back deck, or package shelf, of your 1995 Nissan Altima is designed to protect the rear speakers from damage, in addition to providing a cosmetic cover for the wiring and metal structure underneath. Removing the back deck is a necessary step to gain access to the rear speakers.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Adjust the front seats to the forward-most position.

    2

Examine the bottom area of the rear seat cushion. Remove the two bolts securing the rear seat cushion to the vehicle, using a socket and ratchet.

    3

Slide the seat cushion forward and remove it from the vehicle.

    4

Remove the two screws securing the bottom left and right sides of the rear seat back, using a Phillips-head screwdriver. If the rear seat back features an integrated armrest with opening to the trunk, lower the armrest and remove the two screws securing the center area of the rear seat back to the vehicle, using a Phillips-head screwdriver.

    5

Grasp the seat back and lift it upwards to disengage the seat back's upper clips; remove the seat back from the vehicle.

    6

Lift the exposed edge of the back deck cover to locate the connection points for the two press-fit clips. Carefully pry up each clip, using a trim removal tool. Remove the back deck from the vehicle.

Installation

Insert the rear deck cover over the rear deck; line up the press-fit clips with the corresponding holes on the rear deck. Press down on the exposed edge of the rear deck cover to secure it to the vehicle.

    8

Position the rear seat back against the rear seat back area of the vehicle. Lift the seat back higher than its original resting position; slide the seat back down into its resting place to the engage the upper clips.

    9

Secure the center arm rest area of the seat back to the vehicle, using the original screws and Phillips-head screwdriver.

    10

Secure the lower left and right sides of the seat back to the vehicle, using the original screws and Phillips-head screwdriver.
