In 1991, Hyundai released a new compact sedan, the Elantra. The 2001 Elantra uses a small relay-like component to make the turn signals flash repeatedly. This component opens and closes a circuit at a set pace to create the flashing effect. Hyundai tucked this flasher unit out of the way behind the dashboard, in the passenger compartment relay panels -- which also holds the hazard light relay. Replacing the 2001 Elantra's flasher unit is pretty straightforward, once you locate the relay block.
Instructions
- 1
Adjust the driver's seat as far back as it will go. Look behind the dashboard and locate the passenger compartment relay panel -- small, plastic panel -- behind the dashboard. The flasher unit is the black, rectangular relay-like component on the bottom of the relay panel.
2Pull the flasher from the passenger compartment relay panel, using a slight wiggling motion.
3Line up the prongs on the new flasher with the receptacle on the relay panel. Press the flasher into the receptacle in the relay panel.
