The water pump is the heart of the Honda Prelude's cooling system, circulating the coolant. If the water pump goes bad, it can seriously affect the vehicle's engine and cause damage. Make sure to change out a faulty water pump in your Honda Prelude to keep the engine operating normally.
Instructions
2.2L And 2.3L Prelude Engines
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cables and drain the coolant from the radiator.
2Remove all the accessory drive belts. Also remove the valve cover and the upper timing belt cover.
3Set the TDC/Compression timing for the number one piston. Take out the crankshaft pulley as well as the lower timing belt cover. Take out the timing belt and replace it if it is worn.
4Loosen the bolts to the sensor bracket if your Honda Prelude has a Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation sensor. Move the sensor so that it is out of the way and cover it up with a towel to keep coolant off of it.
5Remove the bolts and take out the water pump. Replace the pump, tightening the bolts to 108-inch lbs. Make sure to clean the surfaces before installing and install a new o-ring to the new water pump.
6Install the new timing belt, fitting and adjusting it to proper position.
7Replace the CKF Sensor if applicable and tighten the bolts to 108-inch lbs. Also install the crankshaft pulley, the lower belt cover, the upper timing belt cover, the accessory drive belts and the valve cover.
8Reconnect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
