Honda introduced the Shadow for the first time in VT500C and VT750C models designed to compete with Harley Davidson. They retained much of the same look with the frame and V-twin engine. In 1998, Honda introduced the Honda Aero VT1100 CE. They continued producing the Shadow Aero until 2003 where they decided to drop the 1100 engine for the 750 due to the tariffs imposed on the larger engine. The VT750 Shadow is still produced at the time of publication. Find the battery on the Shadow under the seat. Like an automotive battery, it requires occasional charging if left idle for a month or more to keep it from discharging completely.
Instructions
- 1
Insert the key in the lock on the left side cover on the bike and turn the key to release the seat lock. Lift the rear of the seat and pull it rearward to withdraw the securing plate on the front of the seat from under the gas tank.
2Remove the tool kit on top of the battery cover. Lift the cover off the battery. Loosen and remove the Phillips head bolts in both battery terminals using the Phillips screwdriver. If they are difficult to remove with the Phillips, use the 10 mm wrench.
3Lift the battery cables off the battery terminals and move them to the side. Lift the battery straight up to remove it.
4Install the new battery, ensuring to install it with the positive and negative terminals in the same position. Look at the cables and note which way to install them. Install the positive battery cable to the battery positive terminal first and tighten the bolt. Repeat for the negative terminal.
5Install the plastic cover over the battery and the tools on the top of the cover. Install the seat by passing the metal plate on the front of the seat under the tank first and then push down on the rear of the seat to lock it in place.
