Replacing the rear brakes on your Acura Integra GS is one of the many maintenance projects that you can do yourself and save money. Replacing the brakes is not difficult. It will take between 30 and 45 minutes to do each wheel, and you can do the job in your driveway or garage. Inspect the rotors, when you are changing the brakes, to make sure there is no damage, such as grooves on the surface.

Instructions

    1

Open the engine compartment and siphon about half of the brake fluid from the master cylinder with a turkey baster. Put the fluid in a drain pan for later recycling. Place wheel chocks in front of the front wheels. Raise the rear end of the Integra with an automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the car near the jacking point and raise it to the frame. Remove the lug nuts with a lug wrench and take the wheel off the Acura.

    2

Remove the caliper dust shield from the caliper by pulling it off if there is one. Loosen the caliper bolts with a socket and ratchet. Lift the caliper off the mounting bracket. Remove the brake pads, shims and retaining spring from the caliper. Clean the caliper thoroughly with a wire brush.

    3

Insert the new brake pads into the caliper. Place the shims behind the brake pads and then push on the retaining spring. Put the caliper on the mounting bracket and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Remount the wheel onto the Integra and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Remove the jack stand from under the car. Lower the Acura to the ground with the jack. Repeat the process on the other wheel.

    4

Add brake fluid to the reservoir and pump the brakes until the pedal feels firm.
