Aluminum wheels are difficult to clean since the metal is soft and susceptible to more stains and damage than are other types of wheels. Grime and road salt can cause stains and pits to appear on aluminum wheels. Even some wheel cleaners safe for all types of wheels can still cause white stains on aluminum wheels. It is possible, however, to make aluminum wheels with a damaged finish appear almost new again by using just a few easily accessible materials.

Instructions

    1

Apply a heavy amount of medium-grade rubbing compound onto the aluminum wheels. Scrub the surface of the wheels with the 000-grade steel wool. The polish may turn black, but wont damage the wheels.

    2

Scrub the wheels with the compound and steel wool until you have covered all of the surface area of the wheels. Use a microfiber towel to wipe the compound off of the wheels.

    3

Apply aluminum polish to the clean wheels using a cotton towel. Work the polish over the surface vigorously. The polish disappears into the surface and reveals a clean aluminum wheel.
