The 1994 Chevrolet Corvette came with two variations of the 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine. The first style was a traditional single camshaft pushrod engine, and the other had a dual overhead camshaft setup with multiport fuel injection. Despite the differences in the two engines, the air-conditioning compressor relay is found on the right-hand inner fender toward the rear of the engine bay. When the air conditioning is turned on, the computer is able to control when the compressor clutch is engaged by grounding out the air-conditioning compressor relay.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Park the vehicle and set the parking brake. Ensure that the ignition key is turned off. Disconnect the negative battery cable with the battery wrench.
2Release the hood latch and lift the hood up toward the front of the vehicle. Confirm that the hood is in the upright position and cannot fall.
3Locate the air-conditioning compressor relay. If the vehicle has a manual transmission, there are either two or four relays attached to the relay bracket on the inner fender. If there are two relays only, the A/C relay will be on the right, closest to the firewall. If there are four relays, it will be the second relay from the front of the car. If the car is an automatic, it has either one or three relays. If there is one relay on the inner fender, that relay is the A/C compressor relay. If there are three relays, the A/C compressor relay is the closest to the front of the car.
4Place the flat-head screwdriver over the relay and under the relay bracket. Push down on the screwdriver, placing downward pressure on the relay until it slides from the relay bracket.
5Squeeze the locking tab on the relay wiring harness and pull the relay out of the wiring harness plug.
Installation
- 6
Spray the wiring harness with electrical cleaner and allow it to dry completely
7Place the relay into the wiring harness plug; it will click into position when properly seated.
8Slide grooves on the back of the wiring harness and relay onto the relay bracket. Slide the harness and relay all the way onto the bracket until it is securely mounted.
9Attach the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal with the battery wrench. Lower the vehicle hood and latch it into position. Start the engine and turn on the air conditioning to ensure proper relay operation. Clear any trouble codes set from the faulty relay.
