High-intensity discharge (HID) lights are brighter than traditional headlights. Also referred to as Xenon lights, HID lights are popular in areas that receive low light, as they increase your visibility of the road while you are driving. One of the downsides of HIDs is that they may blind oncoming drivers because they're so much more powerful than halogen bulbs. Installing HID lights on your 2006 Subaru WRX is an involved but fairly straightforward process.
Instructions
- 1
Park your WRX on a flat surface, and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
2Lift up the hood of your WRX. With a socket wrench, remove the two 10mm bolts from the air intake duct and lift it out of the engine compartment.
3Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery with a socket wrench.
4Remove the caps from the headlights, and use the drill and drill bit to create a hole in the center of each cap.
5Install the new bulbs into the headlights. Use the OEM metal clips that came with the HID headlights to secure them. Connect the headlight wires to the vehicle by matching the wires with their corresponding colors.
6Pull the wires through the caps, and reinstall the caps.
7Clean the headlight ballasts with acetone, and install them in the engine compartment. Mount the passenger-side ballast under the intact duct, and the driver-side ballast next to the washer fluid tube.
8Reattach the battery negative terminal and the air intake duct. Reattach the two 10mm bolts, and close the hood.
