How to Remove a Durango's Radiator

Occasionally, the radiator of the Dodge Durango might wear out or become damaged as well as develop cracks in the tank or become clogged up. In these cases, you might need to remove it to fix the tank. Removing the Durango radiator can be completed in about an hour. You can remove the Durango radiator yourself, saving you the time and money of going to a mechanic to have the radiator removed for you.

Instructions

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Dodge Durango from the battery post with an open-end wrench. Locate the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator, and place a drain pan underneath the valve.

Remove the radiator cap from the top of the radiator tank, and take the cap off the coolant overflow reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Open the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator with a pair of pliers, and let the radiator drain completely.

Unfasten the screw clamps securing the upper and lower radiator hoses to the radiator with a screwdriver. Pry the hoses off the metal flanges of the radiator with a screwdriver.

Disconnect the upper fan shroud mounting screws from the top of the radiator with a screwdriver. Lift the fan shroud assembly up by hand, and remove it from the engine compartment.

Unfasten the front grill with a screwdriver, and remove it from the vehicle. Unplug the electric cooling fan's plastic motor connector by hand.

Detach the transmission oil cooler lines from the radiator with an open-end wrench. Unfasten the radiator mounting screws from the vehicle frame with a screwdriver, and lift the radiator out of the Dodge Durango engine compartment.
