The heater core lines in a 1988 Chevrolet Corsica use the coolant from the engine to heat up the heater core mounted on the interior of the vehicle. These hoses are made of rubber, making them prone to damage over time, such as cracking, peeling or splitting. When one of the heater hose lines breaks, the coolant will empty out of the hole in the line and potentially cause overheating. Fixing the problem requires replacing the heater hoses, but first you have to remove the old lines.

Instructions

    1

Pop the hood. Locate the heater hoses on the passenger side of the engine compartment, which run into the firewall. Determine which type of hose clamps you have securing the rubber lines to the metal connections. Look to see if they have a flat-head screwdriver connection, a Phillips-head connection, or if they require pliers. Once you have determined what you have, use that tool for the following steps.

    2

Undo the hose clamps on the heater hoses using the tool you chose in step 1. Loosen all of the hoses and pull them back on the line so there is no force holding on the line other than the rubber itself.

    3

Set the drain pan underneath the car. Pull the heater hoses off of the firewall and point them at the drain pan. Then pull them off of the engine and discard the old lines unless you are planning on reusing them.
