You can adjust the e-brake on your '98 Camaro right from your home garage, saving yourself both time and money. The emergency brake cable stretches with use making it necessary for periodic adjustments to take up the slack and restore proper function. This adjustment is applicable to Camaros with drum brakes, such as the '98 Camaro. You will know it's time to adjust the e-brake if when you park it downhill and apply the hand brake, the vehicle starts to slip forward.
Instructions
- 1
Lift up on the e-brake so that it clicks just twice.
2Position wheel chocks in front of each of the front wheels. This will keep the Camaro from slipping forward as you work on it.
3Put the jack under the rear of the car and raise it up until you can put jack stands under the car next to each rear wheel. Lower the car onto the jack stands.
4Get under the vehicle and located the cable nut. This is at the point where the brake cables meet in the middle under the car. Tighten it with a wrench. Rotate the left rear wheel forwards as you tighten the nut. Keep spinning it until it doesn't spin any more.
5Raise the hand brake a little, then release it completely.
6Spin the rear wheels forward and backwards to make sure they spin freely.
7Raise up the Camaro and remove the jack stands. Lower it to the ground and remove the wheel chocks.
