Damage to the brake rotors on the Toyota Camry is often the result of allowing the brake pads to wear beyond recommended thicknesses. If the rotors have grooves or scoring, you can take it to a machine shop for resurfacing, unless the rotor is already too thin. If this is the case, then you have no other choice but to replace them. It is not difficult to do and each wheel will only take about 30 minutes to complete.
Instructions
- 1
Park the car on a level surface and turn off the ignition. Jack the car up with the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the car near the jacking point and raise it up to the frame.
2Remove the wheel using the lug wrench. Remove the brake caliper using a the ratchet and socket to remove the retaining bolts. Secure the caliper to the strut using a wire tie. Do not allow it to hang or you will damage the brake line.
3Pull the rotor off of the wheel. If it does not come off easily, use the rubber mallet to hit it until it comes free.
4Put the new rotor on the wheel. Place the brake caliper in the bracket and tighten the bolts with the ratchet and socket. Put the wheel back on the car and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
5Remove the jack stand from under the vehicle and use the jack to lower the car to the ground. Repeat the process on the other wheel. You should replace the rotors in pairs.
