If the electric windows on your 1988 Ford F-150 are not functioning properly, you may have an issue with either the electric window's regulator or the regulator's fuse. Repairing the issue is fairly straightforward in both situations, although replacing a faulty regulator is, not surprisingly, more complicated and time-consuming than replacing a burnt-out fuse. Replacing the regulator requires you to remove the inner door panel from the F-150's door, but you should be able to replace the regulator in just under half an hour.

Instructions

    1

Lift the F-150's hood. Remove the cover from the fuse block in the F-150's engine compartment. Locate the fuse in the third slot and remove it using a fuse puller. Install a replacement 15A fuse and reattach the cover to the fuse block. If the electric windows are still malfunctioning, you will need to replace the regulator.

    2

Disconnect the F-150's negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

    3

Remove the metal retaining clips from around the edge of the inner door panel using a slotted screwdriver. Disconnect the door panel's wiring harness and pull the panel off the door.

    4

Remove the screws securing the window regulator to the door with a Phillips screwdriver. Disconnect the regulator from the window assembly by using a flat-head screwdriver to remove the window linkage.

    5

Remove the regulator and install a replacement regulator. Reattach the window linkage and secure the regulator by reinstalling the screws.

    6

Reattach the inner door panel and its clips. Reconnect the battery's negative cable. Close the hood.
