The odometer, although not a necessary component for operating your 2000 Ford Expedition, is nonetheless an important device for your vehicle that should always be functional. There are three main reasons an odometer could malfunction: the instrument cluster fuse, the odometer's wiring connector or the instrument cluster itself. Repairing your Expedition's odometer is fairly simple and should only take an hour to complete.
Instructions
- 1
Open the Expedition's hood and lift off the cover of the fuse box.
2Remove the fuse in Slot 2 with a fuse extractor tool. Install a replacement 5A fuse. If the odometer is still faulty, the issue may be with the wiring connector or the instrument cluster.
3Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery with a socket wrench.
4Remove the two screws from the dash trim panel above the instrument cluster and pull off the dash trim panel.
5Remove the four screws from the instrument cluster and slide it out towards you.
6Reach behind the instrument cluster and locate the middle wiring connector. Make sure it is plugged into the instrument cluster. If not, connect it. If the odometer is still not working, the instrument cluster will need to be replaced.
7Disconnect the wiring connector of the instrument cluster and pull it out of the Expedition. Install a replacement instrument cluster into the vehicle.
8Reconnect the wiring connector. Reinstall the four instrument cluster screws. Reattach the dash panel and its screws.
9Reconnect the battery to the Expedition and close the hood.
