The 2003 Ford E350 key tumbler switch is not difficult to replace. The key switch activates all the functions of the ignition switch and the locking steering wheel as well. When installing a new key switch it will come with a new key that will not operate the door locks. If having a common key is preferred, you can take the tumbler to a locksmith, who will replace the tumblers to make it work with the original key.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery using a wrench. Turn the ignition key to the run position.

    2

Insert the tool of choice -- whether a drill bit, scribe or similar device -- into the hole in the lower steering column cover directly under the key tumbler switch. There is a small spring-loaded button on the bottom of the key tumbler switch that locks it in the column. Push up on the tool to push the button in while pulling the key tumbler out of the column with the other hand.

    3

Install the new key tumbler switch by placing it in the run position. Push the switch all the way in until the spring-loaded button locks it in place.

    4

Operate the key in all the positions and back to the "off" position. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten it with a wrench.
