The 2006 Chevrolet Malibu came in four trim levels: LS, LT, LTZ and SS. The LS and LT trim levels came fitted with a 144-horsepower, 2.2-liter engine, the LTZ came with a 201-horsepower 3.5-liter engine and the SS model came fitted with a 240-horsepower 3.9-liter engine. The 3.5- and 3.9-liter engines came with an extra plastic cover in the engine compartment to cover the battery. This cover was a vanity piece and serves no mechanical function. Replacing the battery cover on the 2006 Malibu is a task that requires no tools.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and locate the three locking tabs on the battery cover -- one next to the strut tower, one next to the engine and one the front of the cover.

    2

Press the locking tabs and pull up on the battery cover, in this order: front cover tab, engine tab and strut tower tab. Remove the battery cover from the engine compartment.

    3

Set the battery cover in place and press the locking tabs into their slots, in this order: strut tower tab, engine tab and front cover tab. Listen for each tab to click into place before moving to the next tab.

    4

    Close the Malibu's hood.
