The 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse was equipped with a 2.0-liter, 2.4-liter or 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine and shared a platform with the Eagle Talon. The door panels are held on with a combination of screws and clips. The Eclipse was equipped with either manual or power windows, but the procedure for removing the panels is essentially the same for either one.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Park the Eclipse on a level surface and set the parking brake. Roll up the windows.
2Remove the clip that holds the window crank handle onto the regulator with a window crank tool. Pull the handle and spacer from the window crank. Fit the clip back into the handle. For power windows, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the bottom of the door pull. Lift out the pull and switch. Disconnect the switch.
3Remove the Phillips screw from the door handle cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the four Phillips screws from the door panel, two at the front and two at the rear.
4Slide a putty knife or trim removal tool between the door panel and the door. Work around the door and pop loose the clips that hold the panel. Pull the panel away from the door. Clips may get broken in the process, but new ones can be purchased as needed.
Installation
- 5
Line up the clips with the holes in the door. Push the panel onto the door.
6Install the door pull and screw. If equipped with power windows, plug in the switch.
Install the latch cover and screw.
Install the screws at the front and rear of the panel with a Phillips screwdriver.
8Mount the window crank trim and handle so the handle is pointing at the 10 oclock position and push the handle onto the crank. The clip will snap into place.
