There are two ways to prevent radio theft, and the broken windows leading up to it. The first is to make the radio impossible to steal without special tools; a route that those tool-loving German manufacturers often take. The other is electronic; to make the radio hard to remove, but use a sub-routine in the radio's computer to disable it if you enter the wrong code or no code. Tech-savvy Honda chose the latter path with the TL's in-car entertainment. So, the only hard part here is entering the right code before you remove the radio.

Instructions

    1

Get your existing radio's passcode, or the passcode of the radio that you'll be using as a replacement. For your existing radio, hold down buttons 1 and 6,turn the radio on and wait for the code to pop up. Then call your local Honda/Acura dealership or the radio manufacturer, give them the code and they'll give you the radio security code. For your new radio, give them the serial number on the bottom of the radio unit.

    2

Pop the radio trim panel loose with your trim removal pry-bar, or flathead screwdriver with tip wrapped in electrical tape. Work around the panel gently pulling it up so as not to damage it. After removing the panel, you'll see the hex-head screws that secure the radio unit to the entertainment module to the dashboard. Remove the screws, pull the module out and disconnect the harness connectors on the rear of the radio and navigation system display.

    3

Remove the six side screws from each of the side brackets that hold the radio/CD changer to the navigation display. Two more vertical screws secure the radio to the navigation screen; remove them. Install your new radio in the brackets and connect it to the nav screen as you removed the old.

    4

Push the module back into the dash, and reinstall the retention screws. Gently push the trim panel back in place, and pop the retainers in with the palm of your hand. Turn the ignition on, and enter the radio security code when prompted.
