It is interesting to know that the first Jeeps were actually called a Willys and were produced for the U.S. Army. The manufacturer was Willys-Overland Motor Co. The name Jeep is just a brand name used by Willys. The first Jeep was commercially sold to the civilian population in 1945. The replacement of the door pins on 1995 Grand Cherokee is not an isolated problem. Door pins, or rather their bushings, tend to wear over time allowing a misalignment of the door and striker. This is due to the brass bushings that generally suffer from lack of lubrication. It isn't complicated, but more of a difficult job due to the weight of the door. It is advisable to have a helper to support the door.

Instructions

    1

Place the window in the down position. Open the door all the way and place the floor jack under the center of the door with rags on the jack to protect the paint.

    2

Tap the top hinge pin up from the bottom using the drift and a hammer. Tap the bottom hinge pin out in the same manner. Support the door and move it out and away from the body hinge just enough to separate the two hinges.

    3

Chisel the two brass bushings out of each hinge gently. They break very easily.

    4

Insert the top bushing in the body hinge facing downward and gently tap it in with the hammer until it is flush. The second bushing must face upwards in the lower part of the upper body hinge. Tap it in as well.

    5

Install the bushings in the lower body hinge in the same manner. Carefully move the door in and align the door hinges over the body hinges. Align the holes in both hinges and insert the top hinge pin downward. Tap the hinge pin the rest of the way down using the drift and hammer. Install the bottom hinge the same way. Remove the floor jack.
