The oil sending unit supplies a variable voltage to the oil pressure gauge depending on the amount of pressure exerted on it. The oil sending unit is simple to replace with a minimum of tools. Because of the sending units location, you need to raise the Eclipse to access it. You will lose no more than a few drops of oil in replacement.

Instructions

    1

Raise the front of the car and support it on jack stands under the subframe. Lower the car onto the stands. Locate the oil sending unit next to the oil filter. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sending unit. Remove the oil sending unit using a combination wrench.

    2

Place a small amount of silicone sealant on the new senders threads, if there is not some already. Make sure to keep the silicone high on the threads Do not let the silicone touch the tip of the threads as it will affect the senders performance. Allow the silicone to dry for few minutes before installing the sensor.

    3

Install the new sensor and tighten it to 8 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and deep-well socket. There is no reason to have it extremely tight. Plug in the electrical connector.

    4

Raise the vehicle from the jack stands with a floor jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the Eclipse to the ground.
