Subaru brought the Impreza to market for the 1993 model year. The Impreza's second generation entered production in 2001. By 2004, the Impreza offered owners many features not available in earlier models including the cabin air filtration system. A filter located in the dashboard behind the glove box removes remove pollen, dust and other airborne debris from fresh air before they can enter the passenger compartment. To maintain this fresh air, you should inspect and replace the filter regularly. Subaru recommends inspecting the filter every 12,000 miles and replacing it if light is unable to pass through the filter medium.

Open the Impreza's glove box and empty it. Remove the nine glove box retaining screws from the glove box's inner faade using a Phillips screwdriver.
2Pull the retaining clip off the right side of the glove box. Pull the glove box out of the Impreza's dash board to expose the cabin air filter chamber.
3Pull the filter chamber cover off. Slide the old filter straight out of the filter chamber.
4Slide the new filter into the filter chamber, with the flow arrow aimed up. Reinstall the filter chamber cover.
5Reposition the glove box. Reinstall the nine glove box retaining screws and the glove box retaining clip. Close the glove box.
