The front door speakers on a 1992 Volkswagen Jetta are set inside the lower-left corner of each front door panel. Unlike many other vehicles, the entire door panel does not need to be removed to access the speaker; Volkswagen engineered a removable speaker grill that allows access to the speaker assembly. Each speaker is held in place with four steel screws and has a two-wire electrical connector attached to the rear side of the speaker that provides the electrical signal from the stereo.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Open the door and insert a flat-head screwdriver in between the speaker cover and the door panel. Pry around the circumference of the speaker cover until it pops loose. Note the alignment of the locking tabs on the speaker cover with the door panel. Set the speaker cover aside.

    2

Remove the four screws holding the speaker to the door using a Phillips screwdriver and lift the speaker out of the door panel.

    3

Disconnect the speakers electrical connector and set the speaker aside.

Installation

    4

Plug the electrical connector into the new speaker. Set the speaker in place inside the door panel.

    5

Reinstall the four retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

    6

Align the speaker covers locking tabs with their proper location in the door panel. Gently press the speaker cover down onto the door panel until it locks into place.
