The seat assembly in a Ford F-150 may need to be replaced if the seat is damaged beyond repair. This usually happens if someone breaks into the truck and slashes the seats or if you leave the window open too many times in the rain and the seat becomes moldy. Seats can be found in used auto parts yards, which is much cheaper than seats from the dealership or a body parts distributor. Some trucks have seat belt pretensioners, which contain a pyrotechnic device that tightens' the seat belt during a forceful impact.

Instructions

    1

Point the wheels straight ahead and turn the key to the lock position. Disconnect the negative battery cable, using the appropriate wrench. Set it aside, ensuring that it does not touch metal. Wait at least two minutes for the backup power supply to be depleted. The airbag module and the restraints control module are now deactivated.

    2

Move the seat forward to gain access to the bolts. Remove the trim covers --- depending on the year, some may be able to be removed with your fingers. If not, use the screwdriver to gently pry the covers off.

    3

Remove the retaining bolts, using the appropriate sockets. Unplug the electrical connectors. Lift the seat out of the vehicle.

    4

Position the replacement seat in the vehicle. Plug in the electrical connectors. Install and tighten the bolts firmly. Reinstall the trim covers. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
