Removing the hoses and lines from the 2000 Chevrolet Impala radiator will allow you to take the radiator out of the engine compartment in about an hour or two. The Impala radiator is attached to the front of the engine with mounting bolts that can be removed without too much trouble. Occasionally, the radiator can develop cracks or get clogged, requiring that the tank be removed in order to repair or replace the unit. You can save time and money by removing the radiator yourself.
Instructions
- 1
Unfasten the negative battery cable of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala from the battery post with an open-end wrench to avoid any electric shock when removing the radiator. Place a drain pan on the ground beneath the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator.
2Take the radiator cap off the radiator and disconnect the rubber coolant overflow hose from the top of the radiator. Remove the cap from the coolant overflow reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
3Open the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator with a pair of pliers and let the coolant drain out completely. Disconnect the bolts on the upper diagonal braces that secure the front fenders to the vehicle frame with a socket wrench and set the braces out of the way.
4Detach the bolts that secure the engine strut braces to the vehicle frame with a socket wrench and turn the braces toward the back of the engine compartment. Remove the air cleaner assembly off the top of the motor to allow more access to the radiator and fan shroud.
5Disconnect the screw clamps on the top and bottom radiator hoses with a screwdriver and slide the hoses off the metal flanges on the back of the radiator. Unfasten the transmission oil cooler lines near the bottom of the radiator with an open-end wrench and let the coolant drain into the drain pan.
6Unplug the electric wire connector from the cooling fan and detach the cooling fan retainers and bolts that secure the fan shroud to the back of the radiator. Unfasten the clips on the top of the fan shroud that secures the shroud to the radiator with a screwdriver.
7Move the cooling fan shroud out of the way and detach the mounting bolts that secure the radiator to the vehicle frame with a socket wrench. Lift the radiator tank up and remove it from the 2000 Chevrolet Impala engine compartment.
