Greasing a shaft, whether it be an axle shaft or any of a number of other shafts you'll encounter while repairing a car or truck, or even a lawn mower, is a dirty, sticky job, but one that is relatively easy to accomplish. Whenever applying grease to a new part, it is best to use new, uncontaminated axle grease, which is usually available from an auto parts store.
Instructions
- 1
Open the lid of the axle grease.
2Hold the shaft you are greasing in your dominant hand.
3Dip your hand into the canister of axle grease and pull out a handful.
4Apply the grease to the shaft with your handful of grease, being careful to completely cover the part in axle grease, including the bare metal where you are holding the part.
5Insert the greased shaft into its tube without laying the part down. Grease is sticky and will pick up anything that touches it.
