From 1990 through 1995, Chevrolet produced the Lumina APV minivan. The 1995 Lumina APV came fitted with a standard 3.1-liter V-6 engine. This engine used a coil pack to convert the 12 volts from the battery into a high-voltage current that creates the spark from the spark plugs. When the coil fails, you must replace it as soon as possible, as this causes a poor running condition that may lead to engine damage.

Instructions

    1

Locate the ignition coil. It's on the driver's side of the engine, just above the transmission.

    2

Remove the spark plug wire connecting to the top of the ignition coil by grabbing the thick, rubber boot of the wire and pulling up with a slight twisting motion. Unplug the wiring harness from the coil by pulling up on the locking tab and pulling the harness from the coil.

    3

Remove the two bolts on the bottom of the coil that secure it to the metal bracket, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the coil up and out of the engine compartment.

    4

Slide a new ignition coil into the coil bracket and hand tighten the coil-to-bracket bolts. Tighten the coil-to-bracket bolts, using the ratchet and socket.

    5

Plug the wiring harness back into the coil pack and press it downward until you hear it click into place. Set the spark plug wire on top of the new coil and press downward until you feel it click onto the coil.
