The Mitsubishi 3000GT is one of the few vehicles built with disc brakes only in the rear of the car. The process of replacing rear disc brakes is the same for all models of the 3000GT with a couple of exceptions for the all wheel drive version. Follow these steps to learn how to replace the rear disc brakes in any version of the Mitsubishi 3000GT.

Instructions

    1

Siphon one third of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using either a suction gun or syringe. Set the brake fluid aside to refill the reservoir if necessary.

    2

Lift the vehicle off the ground with a car jack. Support the vehicle on all sides to prevent tipping. Check the area for animals or small children that may crawl under the car.

    3

Loosen the lug nuts on the vehicle with a torque wrench. Take the wheels off the 3000GT and set them aside, face up, on the ground.

    4

Remove the lock pin and rotate the caliper upwards. Tie the caliper up using a wire, and then remove the rear disc brake pads and retainers. If your 3000GT is an all wheel drive model, just remove the retaining pins and pull out the rear disc brake pads.

    5

Push the pistons into the caliper bore then replace the disc brake pads and retainers with the new ones. If your 3000GT is an all wheel drive model, grease the inner shims.

    6

Lower the caliper and lay it over the brake pads. Install it to the caliper support and tighten the mounting bolts. Replace the wheels and torque the lug nuts between 87 to 101 ft. lb.
