Connecting rods are integral parts of any internal combustion engine. The rod connects an individual piston to the engine's crankshaft, which results in the transference of energy from the piston chamber to the crankshaft. A connecting rod vise is a special type of vise, specifically designed to hold a connecting rod without damaging it in preparation for repair or maintenance on the rod itself. These vises are typically quite simple to operate.

Instructions

    1

Place the large end of the connecting rod flat on the lowest bar of the vise.

    2

Lower the top bar of the vise until it rests against the top part of the connecting rod's largest end.

    3

Tighten the vise down either by twisting the knob on the top of the vise, or by flipping the lever on the top of the vise. The vise should now be holding the connecting rod securely in place.
