Vehicles driven for many miles, require periodic maintenance to avoid costly breakdowns. On occasion the front hub assembly may need to be replaced. After installing a new hub, there are key portions to verify before the final test drive.
Identification
A front hub assembly holds the two front wheels and brake assemblies to the vehicle's chassis. The large bolts that extend outward for lug nut attachment are part of the front hub assembly as well.
Installation Verification
After installing a new front hub assembly, verify that the lines for the antilock brakes are plugged into the wiring that was disconnected during the hub replacement. The brake's caliper piston should be tightly installed over the rotor assembly.
Considerations
Before test driving, press the brake pedal multiple times to pump the brake system. This pumping action helps bring hydraulic pressure back into the caliper piston for effective braking. If hydraulic pressure is not returned to the caliper piston, the brakes may fail.
