You can remove a window from your 2003 Ford Mustang convertible as a weekend project in your driveway and you'll save money by not having to take your car to the shop. Most likely, you need to remove the window because it is cracked or damaged. Exercise caution when handling the glass to avoid injury. Removing the window requires that you also remove the inside door panel. Only a few basic tools are needed and you should be able to complete this project in about an hour.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable using a wrench and set it aside on a towel.
2Roll down the window that you intend to replace. For manual windows, insert a hooked tool into the small hole behind the window crank. This will release the clip. For power windows, remove the trim using a flat-head screwdriver. Unplug the wiring behind the trim.
3Remove the screws behind and under the handle on the door using a Philips-head screwdriver. Pry up the trim panels with a flat-head screwdriver.
4Pull the panel forward and disconnect the electrical connectors with your hands. Peel off the waterproof plastic shield behind the panel.
5Unscrew the door speaker and pull it from the door. Disconnect the wiring behind the speaker.
6Pry up the window weatherstripping with a flat-head screwdriver.
7Remove the bolts that fasten the glass to the car door using a torx wrench.
8Put on work gloves and eye goggles to protect against injury. Lift up the window glass. Loosen the nuts underneath the glass with a socket wrench.
9Pull the window glass from the doorframe and remove it from the Mustang convertible.
