The 2004 Nissan Titan was manufactured with a braking system consisting of front-wheel disc brakes and rear wheel drum brakes. The front brakes of the vehicle perform 60 percent of the work when the brakes are applied, so they need to be maintained more often. Whenever the brake pads are replaced the rotor should be checked for gouging, chipping and overall wear. When the damage is slight, the rotors can be removed and polished, but heavy damage means the rotors should be completely replaced.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Nissan Titan on a flat, level surface and set the parking brake.
2Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel with a lug wrench. Place the jack under the center of the front of the frame and lift the truck until jack stands can be placed under both front axles. Finish removing the lug nuts. Remove the wheel and place it out of the way.
3Remove the bolts holding the caliper in place. Hang the caliper from the steering arm with a short piece of wire to prevent it from getting damaged.
4Grip the rotor firmly on both sides and pull straight out. If the rotor is stuck, tap it a few times with a rubber mallet to break it loose.
5Remove the thin layer of plastic from the front of the new rotor. Slip the rotor into place.
6Remove the caliper from the wire and bolt it back into place with a socket wrench.
7Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts down by hand. Remove the jack stands and lower the Nissan Titan. Finish tightening the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Work in a star pattern around the wheel.
