Car and truck windshields are held in place with a rubber gasket or seal and a molding strip. This molding strip, generally made of rubber, will grow old over time and the windshield may begin to leak around the edges. When this happens, removal of the windshield is generally not necessary, but the glass should be re-secured to the car with new molding. Installing new windshield molding can be tricky unless you use the correct tools and proper steps.

Press a suction cup to the windshield glass to secure the suction cup's handle. Turn the handle, while making sure that it is centered to the glass. Loosen the glass slowly, while keeping a firm, controlled grip on the suction handle.
2Remove the center windshield clip, found at the bottom center of the windshield glass. This clip holds the molding together by its ends. Slide it from one end of the molding and the other to remove it completely. Pull on the molding strip until it comes out of its rubber gasket around the windshield. Keep a hand on the suction handle in case the rubber gasket holding the glass becomes too loose. Though it is normal that the gasket may become loose, it should not be loose enough to release the windshield.
3Once the old molding is out, install the new molding by pressing one end into the bottom center windshield gasket. Use the gasket tool to help push the molding into the gasket's groove around the windshield.
4Install the molding slowly as goingit too quickly could damage the gasket or glass. Use the suction handle to gently move the glass from side to side, in order to allow the molding to fit and seat properly.
5Slide the clip onto one end of the windshield after the molding has been pushed through the gasket all the way around the window. Press the other end of the clip firmly into the gasket to lock it in place. Use the gasket tool to make sure it is firmly locked. Once it is set in place, remove the suction cup from the windshield.
