In 1994, Toyota revamped its popular Camry lineup with the addition of a new coupe model, in addition to the existing sedan. The Camry was available in either a DX or LE sedan trim level fitted with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine or as the 3-liter V-6 engined LE coupe. Regardless of the trim level, the Camry used a simple clip and screw system to attach the inner door panels to the door frames, which allowed the panels to be removed to effect repairs to the window controls or to replace the factory-equipped audio speaker system. Most DIY mechanics can remove and install the door panels in a short time, using only common automotive tools.

Instructions

Front Door Panel Removal

    1

Open the door completely and roll the window up until it is fully closed. Remove the snap ring from the widow regulator handle, using an automotive clip removal tool. Pull the window regulator handle and plate off the window regulator shaft. Skip this step if the Camry is equipped with power windows.

    2

Wrap the tip of a flat-head screwdriver with masking tape, then insert the screwdriver at the rearmost portion of the inner door handle bezel. Gently pry the bezel out of the door panel, then pull the bezel to the rear until it can be removed completely. The door handle mechanism will still be attached to the door frame.

    3

Pull the courtesy light out of the door panel, then unplug the light connector. This step applies only to Camry coupe models.

    4

Pry the screw covers and tweeter cover out of the door panel, using your tape-wrapped flat-head screwdriver. Remove the screws that were previously hidden from the door panel, using a Phillips screwdriver.

    5

Pry the clips along the bottom of the door panel out of the door frame, using your flat-head screwdriver. Lift the door panel up and off the door frame. Reach around the door panel and unplug the power window and door lock electrical connectors. Replace any damaged door panel clips before reinstalling the door panel.

Lift the door panel into place near the door frame. Plug the power window and door lock connectors into their respective terminals on the rear face of the panel.

    7

Hook the top of the panel over the top of the door frame window channel. Push the clips along the bottom edge of the door panel firmly into the door frame. Screw the door panel screws into place, using a Phillips screwdriver. Push the screw covers and tweeter cover into place by hand.

    8

Plug in the courtesy light connector, then push the courtesy light into the door panel. This step applies only to Camry coupe models.

    9

Slip the hook at the forward edge of the inner door handle bezel under the door panel. Push the bezel against the door panel until the mounting clips along the inner face of the bezel snap into place.

    10

Slip the window regulator plate and handle over the regulator shaft. Push the snap ring into the groove cut into the regulator shaft, using the tip of a flat-head screwdriver or a clip removal tool.

    13

Pull the inner door handle completely and hold it in place. Slip a masking tape-wrapped flat-head screwdriver into the groove near the door lock mechanism at the top of the inner door handle bezel, then pry the upper half of the bezel out of the door panel. Move the screwdriver to the groove near the handle along the bottom of the bezel, then pry the bezel out of the door. Pull the bezel to the rear of the door until it can be removed completely from the door panel. The door handle mechanism will still be attached to the door frame.

Replace any damaged door panel clips before reinstalling the door panel.
