In 1953, Ford shook up its F-series lineup with a redesign and a new naming system F-100, F-250 and F-350. The 1988 F-250 had an engine to meet nearly any buyer's needs. The five engines available were: a 4.9-liter in-line six-cylinder, a 5.0-liter V-8, a 5.8-liter V-8, a 7.5-liter V-8 and a 7.3-liter V-8 diesel. Also available on the 1988 F-250 was an optional AM-FM stereo system. Installing a new stereo in the 1988 F-250 is a straightforward task that most owners can complete successfully.

Open the ashtray to provide clearance needed to remove the trim. Grab the radio bezel the trim surrounding the radio and pull it outward to disengage its retaining clips. Set the radio bezel aside.
2Remove the four radio retaining screws with a ratchet and 7 mm socket. Slide the radio out until you can access the wiring on its rear.
3Press and hold the unlock button on each of the two wiring harnesses on the rear of the radio and unplug them. Pull the antenna cable from the rear of the radio. Remove the radio completely.
4Plug the wiring harnesses into the rear of the new radio and plug the antenna wire into its receptacle. Slide the radio into its chassis in the dashboard. Tighten the four radio retaining screws with a ratchet and 7 mm socket.
5Align the clips on the rear of the radio bezel with the slots in the dashboard around the radio. Press the bezel onto the dashboard to lock the retaining clips into place. Close the ashtray.
