The 1992 Lincoln Town Car came standard with a 4.6-liter V-8 engine that generated 190 horsepower and 265 foot-pounds of torque. The engine required 20 to 30 psi of oil pressure at idle and 45 to 55 psi at 1,500 rpm. The oil pressure switch monitored the pressure in the oil system and alerted the driver, via a dashboard light, if the oil pressure was lower than required.
Instructions
- 1
Raise the front of the Town Car with a floor jack and set jack stands under the frame rails. Lower the Town Car onto the jack stands.
2Crawl beneath the Lincoln and locate the oil pressure switch, directly below the oil filter on the driver's side of the engine. Set a drain pan under the oil pressure sender.
3Loosen the nut retaining the wire to the oil pressure switch and pull the wire from the switch. Remove the oil pressure switch with a ratchet and socket. A small amount of oil will drain from the hole the pressure sender screws into.
4Apply a thin coat of thread sealer to the threads of the new pressure switch. Thread the oil pressure switch into the engine by hand, then tighten it to 9 to 11 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and socket.
5Reinstall the wire on the pressure switch and tighten the nut with a ratchet and socket.
6Raise the Town Car from the jack stands, using a floor jack, and remove the jack stands. Lower the car to the ground.
7Check the oil level and add engine oil as needed. Start the engine and allow it to run for about two minutes. Turn it off, wait another two minutes, recheck the engine oil level and add engine oil as needed.
