The Alero Flash Oldsmobile is a brand of car that was in production from 1999 to 2004. This vehicle had several basic problems, one of which was the propensity of the car radio to buzz and produce static. There is a fairly uncomplicated method to reduce the static in any car radio, which will work well with any Alero vehicle. For this project, a basic knowledge of radio systems, cars and electrical systems are beneficial, but anyone can perform the task with a little advanced research.
Instructions
- 1
Set the multimeter to read AC electrical volts. Open the cars hood.
2Connect the black com tip of the multimeter to the negative side of the cars battery. Connect the red volts tip to the positive side of the battery.
3Turn on the car. Rev the engine to 1500 rpms.
4Turn on the air conditioner, the defroster and the radio. The reading on the multimeter should read under 0.09 volts. If it does not, you need to replace the diodes in the alternator.
5Remove the diode trio from the alternator using a screwdriver or ratchet.
6Set the new diode plate in place of the original. Connect the diode lead terminal to the negative side of the multimeter test lead. Connect the three copper contact pads to the positive side of the multimeter test lead.
7Screw the diode plate in place to the alternator. Connect the ground wire to the frame of the vehicle. Connect the diode wires to the positive and negative side of the battery.
8Test the voltage of the diodes again by revving the engine. The volts should now stay under 0.09, eliminating the static problem.
