Nissan introduced the Sentra in 1982. The 1994 Sentra is the last of the third-generation Sentras which were produced from 1991 to 1994. The 1994 Sentra is powered by a 1.6-liter transverse-mounted DOHC engine with sequential fuel injection mounted to a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch on the manual transaxle is controlled by a cable that the DIY mechanic can easily replace.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Sentra on a level, paved surface and set the parking brake.
2Locate the clutch lever on top of the transaxle and loosen the adjuster knob until you can slip the end of the cable from the lever.
3Follow the cable to the firewall where it enters the interior of the Sentra. Remove the two insulator nuts with a ratchet and socket.
4Move to the interior of the Sentra and remove the end of the cable from the hooked end of the clutch pedal.
5Pull the cable and insulator from the firewall. Remove the cable from the insulator. At the transmission lever, pull the cable from the bracket attached to the transaxle.
6Coat the rubber grommets on a new cable with some multipurpose grease. Push the cable into the insulator. Push the cable into the bracket on the transaxle. Guide the cable through the firewall into the interior of the Sentra. Mount the insulator and install the nuts. Use a torque wrench and socket to torque the nuts to between 72 and 96 inch-pounds.
7Move to the interior and slip the cable over the clutch pedal. Move to the other end of the cable and back off the adjuster far enough so you can slip its end onto the clutch lever.
8Tighten the adjuster to remove the slack from the cable. Check the free-play at the clutch pedal. You should have between 1/2- and 9/16-inch. Adjust as necessary to obtain this measurement. Check adjustment after a few days because the cable will stretch out a little bit.
