How to Make Your Own Door Crank Removal

If you find yourself doing repairs on a vehicles window and in need of a method to remove the window crank, what you need is a window crank removal tool. This tool is a simple piece of metal that has a specific shape to remove the clip that holds the crank in place. Buying a specialized tool, however, can seem a waste if you do not plan to do any more car repairs in the future. Fortunately, there are a few things around the house that will remove the window crank.

Instructions

Screwdrivers

Hold one flat-head screwdriver in either hand. The screwdrivers can be any size, so long as they are small enough to fit under the crank without damaging it.

Work one screwdriver slowly around the crank until you feel it catch on the side of the window crank retainer clip.

Find the other side of the clip using the other screwdriver. The other side of the clip should be roughly a quarter-turn away.

Apply even pressure to both screwdrivers until the clip snaps free.

Rag

Hold a rag in either hand and work it between the door and the window crank.

Move the rag back and forth in a sawing motion, or the motion that you use to floss teeth. Make sure there is a good amount of tension in the rag.

Keep doing this until you eventually hit the proper spot and the clip pops free.
