The XJ6 is a luxury car manufactured by Jaguar. Like most vehicles, the XJ6 has ball joints on the front wheels that are important for the suspension of the vehicle. If these ball joints begin to malfunction or are damaged, you will be unable to properly steer your XJ6. Replacing your XJ6's ball joints is actually a fairly simple process that should not take you more than 90 minutes to complete.
Instructions
- 1
Place a jack underneath the XJ6 and lift up the vehicle. Place two jack-stands underneath the front portion of the XJ6 to support it.
2Remove the nuts from the front wheel with a wheel wrench and remove the front wheels.
3Remove the XJ6's cotter-pin on the upper control arm using pliers.
4Remove the tie rod from the ball joint with a socket wrench. The tie rod is held to the ball joint by a single lock nut.
5Place a spring compressor on the control arm's coil spring to prevent any injury.
6Use a ball joint splitter to separate the ball joint from the control arm.
7Remove the bolts from the ball joint and remove it from the XJ6.
8Attach a replacement ball joint to the XJ6's control arm and install it by reattaching the bolts.
9Remove the spring compressor. Reattach the tie rod and the cotter-pin.
10Reattach the front wheels and remove the jack-stands. Lower the XJ6 and remove the jack.
