How to Make Parking Brake Adjustments in a Dodge Intrepid

Make parking brake adjustments to your Dodge Intrepid with a few tools and a little knowledge about how the car wheels and brakes work. Adjust the parking brake when your car starts to slip parked on a slope. Use this technique for Dodge Intrepid years 1998 to 2004.

Raise your Dodge Intrepid rear wheels in the air using the jack and support the rear wheels with the jack stands. Remove both rear wheels using the tire iron to loosen and take off the lug nuts. Lift the tire off the bolts by hand.

Take off the brake calipers and rotors with your wrench or pliers. Locate these underneath your Dodge Intrepid inside the wheel wells. Verify the parking brakes and the cables operate freely and are not stuck.

Make sure the parking brake shoes are in the right place against the wheel well.

Reinstall the rotors and make sure they turn freely. Reinstall the brake calipers and tighten the bolts to 30 foot pounds or 41 Nm with your pliers. Put the tires and lug nuts back on your Dodge Intrepid with the tire iron.

Lower your vehicle enough to press in on the parking brake foot pedal. Put your vehicle back in the air.

Get under the vehicle and mark the tension rod 6.35mm from the edge of the bracket. Locate this in the center of the vehicle. Tighten the adjusting nut until the mark on the rod moves right on the tension bracket.

Release the park brake foot pedal and verify the rear wheels spin freely. Lower your Dodge Intrepid to the floor with the jack and remove the jack stands.
