The brake calipers that come stock on the Lexus GS300 are hydraulic brakes, with multiple pistons inside the caliper body. The seals on these pistons can wear down over time, necessitating either rebuilding or replacing the stock calipers. Removing the calipers should take about 15 minutes per corner. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2005 Lexus GS300, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.
Instructions
- 1
Lift the vehicle onto jack stands using the jack. Take off the tires with the tire iron and set them to the side.
2Install the brake-line clamp onto the rubber brake line, as close to the brake caliper as possible. Remove the brake line from the caliper using a line wrench.
3Unbolt the caliper from the suspension with the ratchet. Lift it back off the rotor carefully, then lift it away from the car.
4Repeat steps two to three for any remaining calipers on the vehicle that you want to remove on either the front or rear brakes.
