The upper timing belt cover on the 1994 Honda Accord is used to protect the timing belt and other engine components from dirt and debris. If foreign material enters this area, early wear could result. This cover is also used to hold the wiring harness for the alternator in place.

Instructions

Upper Timing Belt Cover Removal

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Position the cable so that it cannot contact the battery terminal.

    2

Disconnect the wiring harness from the alternator. There are two connections. One is an electrical connector that is clipped in place, and the second is a cable held in place with a 10 mm nut. Remove the wiring harness from the valve cover and set aside.

    3

Remove the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve from the top of the valve cover with the vacuum hose still attached. Position out of the way. Remove the second vacuum hose at the back left of the valve cover and set aside.

    4

Remove the bolt securing the ground wire to the right front of the valve cover and position the wire out of the way. Remove the valve cover nuts, washers and grommets.

    5

Carefully insert a screwdriver between the valve cover and head. Gently pry the valve cover off of the head and set aside.

    6

Remove the two 10 mm bolts that secure the upper timing belt cover. There is a bolt on each side of the cover at the bottom. Remove the cover.

Upper Timing Belt Cover Installation

    7

Install the upper timing belt cover and tighten the two bolts.

    8

Install the valve cover. Ensure that no wires or hoses get pinched between the valve cover and head. Install the grommets and washers. Install the nuts securing the valve cover. Torque nuts to 7 foot-pounds.

    9

Replace the vacuum hose at the back left and the PCV valve on the valve cover. Replace the ground wire at the right front of the valve cover and tighten the bolt.

    10

Route the alternator wiring harness in the proper position at the top of the timing cover. Reconnect the electrical connector and cable at the back of the alternator. Connect the negative battery cable.
