Maintaining the engine operating temperature in your 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible protects your car's engine from overheating and damaging the engine block. The thermostat helps control the flow of coolant to the engine to maintain the proper operating temperature. Inexplicable overheating despite sufficient coolant in the radiator could be caused by a bad thermostat. Buy a replacement thermostat from an auto parts retailer or your local Chrysler dealer.
Instructions
- 1
Place a large drain pan beneath the radiator drain plug on the driver's side of the radiator. Open the hood and remove the radiator cap. Loosen the radiator drain plug with a wrench.
2Drain the coolant until it is below the top radiator hose. Close the drain plug with the wrench.
3Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the opposite end. Remove the three bolts on the outside of the thermostat housing with a wrench.
4Remove the old thermostat. Clean any remaining gasket pieces off the thermostat housing with a putty knife. Insert the new thermostat into the housing with the vent hole facing up. Position the new gasket on the mounting surface and replace the thermostat housing.
5Secure the mounting bolts on the thermostat housing. Tighten the bolts with a wrench. Top off the Sebring's radiator with a 50-50 blend of anti-freeze and water. Replace the radiator cap.
